Hamilton takes victory in Singapore after a chaotic race

After a chaotic beginning to the 2017 Formula One Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton managed to prevail and take the chequered flag.

And true to form, the start of the race proved to be incredibly chaotic - while Sebastien Vettel and Max Verstappen got off to a good start, Kimi Raikonnen came charging on the inside after having gotten off to a fantastic start. However, due to the rain, Raikonnen lost control on the entry into Turn One, colliding into Verstappen and causing absolute mayhem with several cars being taken out. This led to the race being yellowed flagged and the safety car being deployed, all within the first minute of the race.
Hamilton managed to barely stay out of harm's way, and as the race resumed on lap five, was in the lead ahead of Ricciardo. Hamilton continued to build his lead, only to see it erased not once, by twice by safety cars, due to crashes by Daniel Kvatt and Marcus Ericsson. However, after a weekend where the pair of Mercedes looked slightly off the pace compared to the Ferraris and Red Bulls, Hamilton took the chequered flag ahead of Ricciardo and teammate Valtteri Bottas. The chaotic race also meant that several drivers managed to secure career best finishes, including Carlos Sainz in fourth, Sergio Perez in fifth, Jolyon Palmer in sixth and Stoffel Vandoorne in seventh.
With this win, Hamilton goes 28 points clear at the top of the Driver's Championship, while Mercedes further consolidates its lead atop the Constructor's Championship, clear of Ferrari by 98 points.
