Alfa Romeo will reach an important milestone on 24 June 2020, with the firm having spent 110 years in the business. To mark its 110^th birthday, Alfa Romeo presents a vehicle that fully signifies a return to the brand's origins, while paying tribute to one of the most emblematic vehicles of Alfa Romeo - the Giulia GTA.

The GTA acronym stands for 'Gran Turismo Alleggerita' ('alleggerita' being the Italian term for 'lightened'). For the new Giulia GTA, Alfa Romeo's engineers have striven to improve aerodynamics and handling, but above all to reduce weight, adopting the same guidelines that produced the 1965 Giulia GTA.

A 100kg weight saving over the regular Giulia has been achieved thanks to the adoption of lightweight materials such as carbon fibre for the drive shaft, hood, roof, front bumper, front wheel arches and rear wheel arch inserts.

The active aerodynamics for the new Giulia GTA has been designed to increase downforce, and the same task has been assigned to the new side skirts, the rear spoiler and the active front splitter. A new titanium Akrapovic central exhaust system is integrated with the carbon fibre rear diffuser, and the car also features new 20-inch centre lock wheels, appearing for the first time on an Alfa Romeo sedan.

The handling of the Giulia GTA at high speeds has been improved thanks to a widening of the front and rear wheel tracks by 50mm. A new set of springs, shock absorbers and bushings for the suspension system further adds to the Giulia GTA's improvements.

The Giulia GTA will be propelled by a bi-turbo 2.9-litre V6, made entirely of aluminium and now capable of unleashing 532bhp thanks to meticulous calibration work performed by Alfa Romeo's engineers.

The interior of the Giulia GTA is finished in Alcantara on the dashboard, door panels, glove compartment, side pillars and the central trim on the seats. New matte carbon inserts will also endow the interior with a distinctive and technical elegance.

Alfa Romeo has also announced a limited edition Giulia GTAm. The high-performance Giulia GTAm will sport a larger front splitter and a real carbon rear wing, as well as six-point Sabelt safety belts.

The rear bench of the Giulia GTAm has also been removed, leaving room for a fully upholstered 'basin' to house mouldings designed to hold helmets and fire extinguisher. The interior also features a roll bar and has the car's door cards removed. The door is opened with a belt in place of the handle, linking the car to the world of motorsports.

A total of 500 examples of the GTA and GTAm will be built. All Giulia GTAms will be numbered and certified and ready to take up their place alongside their 1965 forerunner as one of the most sought-after collector's items.
