The final phase of the series development process for the new BMW 2 Series Coupe has begun. The production prototype has undergone testing and tuning of its drive and suspension systems under race track conditions. The two-door compact sports car features hallmark characteristics that create a sporty and emotional driving experience.
The unique selling points of the new 2 Series Coupe include the rear-wheel drive setup, a punchy in-line six-cylinder engine, weight distribution that stands at around 50/50, optimal torsional stiffness, and chassis technology designed for agile and precise handling characteristics.
The vehicle, which will be manufactured from mid-2021, will continue the brand's tradition of driver-oriented and powerful two-door models, meeting the needs of customers who demand unadulterated sportiness in a compact premium automobile.
In addition to test drives at the Nurburgring's Nordschleife, testing on public roads around Munich and the BMW Group's primary test site ensures that the dynamic driving abilities of the new 2 Series Coupe can also be experienced under different road conditions in everyday traffic.
All variants of the new coupe benefit from a particularly torsion-resistant body structure. Static torsional stiffness has been increased by around 12% compared to the outgoing model through the use of dynamic driving struts in the rear of the vehicle, which results in greater agility. In addition, the vehicle features significantly increased track width at the front and rear axles. This reduces body roll and wheel load fluctuations during spirited cornering.
On the outside, the body design of the new 2 Series Coupe reflects the brand's modern, performance-oriented design language. Aerodynamic features such as a model-specific front spoiler lip and an airflow-optimised underbody ensure that lift across the front axle has been reduced by 50% as compared to the predecessor model.
