Mercedes-Benz has officially launched the brand new EQC in Singapore, an all electric SUV that marks the first model under the new EQ brand to be made available here. The launch of the EQC will be followed by the EQA in Q3, as well as the EQS at the start of 2022.

Mercedes-Benz has outlined its Ambition2039, a strategy to have a fully networked and completely carbon neutral new car fleet by 2039. To this end, the EQ sub-brand, with its lineup of all electric models, aims to deliver a carbon neutral mobility whilst still retaining the core qualities that have come to define the Mercedes brand.

The EQC can cover up to 423km on a full charge
The new EQC compact SUV is the first model in this lineup. Powering the EQC is an all new electric drivetrain, which uses two electric motors fitted on either axle to deliver a combined output of 402bhp and 760Nm of torque. Thus, the EQC benefits from all-wheel drive, with torque intelligently distributed to balance between efficiency and driving dynamism.

The 80kWh lithium-ion battery pack gives the EQC a range of 423km. Using the on-board charger, the car can be charged at a standard 11kW AC outlet either at home or at public charging stations. Additionally, the car can also be charged at up to 110kW with DC charging, with the battery charged from 10% to 80% in around 40 minutes. In Singapore, DC charging using the maximum available 50kW will take about 1.6 hours for 10% to 80% SoC.

The EQC's futuristic look is headlined by distinctive light signatures at the front
Visually, the EQC boasts an avant-garde and distinct design that Mercedes calls 'Progressive Luxury'. The extended roofline and low waistline gives the car visually striking proportions, while the front of the car is highlighted by the large black-panel surface enclosing the head lights and grille.

The interior of the EQC combines futuristic aesthetics with sustainable materials. The instrument panel is designed as a driver-oriented cockpit, while the MBUX multimedia system also features EQC-specific functions such as output, recuperation phases and charging information.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the cabin is also manufactured from high-quality recycled material. The optional Sunnyvale fabric lines the centre sections of the backrest and seat surface, and the side bolsters are of man-made leather. Even for the invisible parts, the most sustainable approach was chosen - more than 100 components in the interior are made from resource-friendly materials like hemp, kenaf, wool or paper.

The EQC is also equipped with the latest generation safety systems, including Pre-Safe, Active Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist. The optional Driving Assistance package includes Active Distance Assist Distronic, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function, Active Blind Spot Assist with exit warning function, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Pre-Safe Plus.

Of course, the protection of the high voltage battery is also paramount. On top of additional mechanical protection from the stable frame that surrounds the battery, there is a multi-stage safety concept that deploys in the event of an accident. The high-voltage system automatically shuts down, reversibly or irreversibly, according to the severity of the accident.

The AMG Line equipment line brings an added sporty flair, inclding a three-spoke AMG multifunction steering wheel
In Singapore, the new EQC is offered in two trim levels. The Electric Art equipment line brings rose-gold highlights in the interior, while the AMG Line offers more sporty elements including an AMG-specific radiator grille, a three-spoke AMG multifunction sport steering wheel, AMG sports pedals, leather seats with carbon-fibre look trim, and AMG floor mats.

With the launch of the EQC, Mercedes-Benz is also introducing an integrated service package for customers of the EQC (this comes included with every EQC purchase). Valid for 10 years or 150,000km (whichever comes first), the package offers buyers the lowest possible hassle when switching to an EV. The integrated service package provides owners one servicing per 12-month period, or every 15,000 km (whichever comes first), effectively covering yearly servicing as far as checking of fluids and brakes are concerned. Additionally, the battery is covered by warranty of eight years or 160,000km.
