If it's imposing road presence and sheer luxury and refinement in a full-sized SUV you're after, you'll want to sit up and pay attention to this one: Land Rover has revealed its new fifth generation Range Rover.

The new car is still instantly recognisable as the marque's flagship SUV, with the model's distinctive silhouette, strong waistline and characteristically short front overhang all retained.

At the rear of the car however, lies a new boat tail rear complete with a practical new split tailgate, finishing the car's elegant profile and adding to the Range Rover's peerless presence.

Underneath all that new sheet metal, is Land Rover's new flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture, MLA-Flex, said to offer unmatched capability and agile handling on top of peerless refinement.

And raising refinement levels further for the new Range Rover is a fully independent air suspension system. Delivering serene composure at all times, the air suspension is pre-emptive, utilising navigation data to read the road ahead and prime the suspension for the perfect response to any road imperfection.

The system also works in conjunction with the Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering Assist to smooth out body movements resulting from sudden changes in speed. The fact that the Range Rover is equipped with Land Rover's first ever five-link rear axle and advanced air springs also helps with proceedings here.

As will the car's third-generation Active Noise Cancellation system, played through the 35-speaker 1,600W Meridian Signature Sound System, which not only generates noise cancelling signals through the entire cabin, but is also able to create personal quiet zones, thanks to a pair of 60mm diameter speakers in the headrests for each of the four main cabin occupants.

There's no need to fear awkward moments during ingress or egress from the Range Rover as well, thanks to new Power Assisted Doors.

The automatic doors come with integrated hazard detection and anti-pinch safety features, and is equipped on all four passenger doors, allowing elegant entry and exit in any situation.

The powered doors can be operated from the Range Rover's award-winning Pivi Pro infotainment technology now displayed through the largest ever touchscreen from Land Rover.

At 13.1-inch across, the new floating screen rests will with the architectural lightness of the interior with its minimalist frame, and provides intuitive control of all the major vehicle functions, thanks to a smartphone-inspired interface, allied to convenient hard switches for the climate controls.

The screen is also now able to offer up haptic feedback for positive confirmation that selections have been registered.

The new central screen pairs with a 13.7-inch Interactive Driver Display that also features new high-definition graphics. Cased around a three-panel layout, the new instrument cluster intuitively reflects the design of the Pivi Pro homescreen, and allows customers to choose from a variety of configurations, including a conventional analogue layout, using the steering wheel controls.

Those seated at the rear also get treated to a new Rear Seat Entertainment system, which provides adjustable 11.4-inch HD touchscreens mounted on the rear of the front seatbacks. They can be operated independently and support the connection of most devices with an HDMI port, while Wi-Fi hotspot capability means rear-seat passengers can enjoy smart TV entertainment on the move.

An 8.0-inch Rear Seat Touchscreen Controller mounted in the centre armrest of the Executive Class Rear Seats will provide quick and intuitive control for the perfect seating position, elevating the luxurious rear-seat experience.

The New Range Rover is being offered at launch with a choice of new Extended Range Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle powertrains, the P440e and P510e.

The new Extended-Range PHEVs combine the inherent refinement of Land Rover's six-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine with a 38.2kWh lithium-ion battery and a 141bhp electric motor integrated with the transmission. Together, the powertrain provides up to 100km of pure-electric driving. With instantaneous electric torque the new P510e accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds.

A mild-hybrid P400 Ingenium petrol variant is also being offered. Finally, there is a powerful new petrol-powered flagship - the P530 - which utilises a new twin-turbocharged V8 for increased refinement and performance. The new V8 is claimed to be 17% more efficient than the previous Range Rover V8. The century sprint for the Range Rover is dispatched in just 4.6 seconds with this engine.

A First Edition will be available throughout the first year of production, based on the Autobiography and featuring a unique specification. It is exclusively available in a Sunset Gold Satin finish, among a choice of five exterior colours. Both Standard and Long Wheelbase body designs are available with five seats, while the Long Wheelbase model is available with a third row for extended comfort for up to seven adults.

A pure-electric Range Rover is also set to join the lineup come 2024. Expect the Range Rover to reach Singapore mid-2022.
