  • Toyota reveals new 300bhp GR Corolla

The Toyota GR Corolla takes after the GR Yaris with a hatchback body and all-wheel drive, but has its three-cylinder engine tuned all the way to 300bhp.

You've no doubt heard the rumors and noticed the teasers. Now, finally, the Toyota GR Corolla has been revealed in full.

Like the Toyota GR Yaris we tested in 2021, the GR Corolla gets a turbocharged three-cylinder, paired to clever all-wheel drive technology and all wrapped within a handsomely aggressive hatchback form.

Toyota GR Corolla gets unique triple exhaust designed to reduce backpressure for maximum power delivery
Only here in the GR Corolla, the wick has been turned up to 11. So, you get a total of 300bhp from the G16E-GTS powerplant. Toyota states this power gain is attributable to an improved engine exhaust efficiency, thanks to a new three-piece muffler that ends with brushed stainless steel tips. This engine also generates a maximum of 370Nm of twisting force.

A six-speed intelligent manual transmission equipped with rev-matching sends power into Toyota's GR-Four all-wheel drive system puts all that power onto the road.

On the handling front, the Toyota GR Corolla gets increased use of welding spots and structural adhesive on its TNGA GA-C platform. Managing those wheels, meanwhile, is a MacPherson-type strut design at the front, equipped with circuit-tuned coil springs, shock absorbers and stabiliser bars.

12.3-inch instrument cluster, 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, and conventional parking brake lever all should see to your entertainment
And at the rear, a double-wishbone type multilink system delivers maximum agility and stability. These will grasp 18-inch gloss-black 15-spoke cast alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres for examples headed to the U.S.A.

And wrapping up all this performance is an undoubtedly aggressive body. Here, the bonnet and front door panels are made of aluminium, while the performance-oriented Circuit Edition cars will get a roof made from a forged carbon sheet.

That hood bulge and gloss black accents atop, alongside the gloss black rear vents and a matt black rear spoiler are also exclusive to the Circuit Edition car. Regular Core grade cars get a gloss black rear lip spoiler instead.

Turbocharged three-cylinder pushes out 300bhp in the Toyota GR Corolla
In the cabin, the Toyota GR Corolla gets a 12.3-inch color multi-information display. The shift lever also has a shortened stroke for a quick throw between gears, and a mechanical parking brake is also offered.

Circuit Edition cars here will get Brin Naub suede and synthetic leather-trimmed sport seats with red stitching, red mesh inserts and GR badged headrests, while those on the Core trim are upholstered in fabric with gray stitching and GR badged headrests.
