The all-electric Ioniq 5 is now available for everyone to drive here in Singapore. But there's a small catch: You'll need to have a GetGo account, and the car is only going to be available in Jurong West for now.
The car is arriving here as part of a new collaboration between local car sharing platform GetGo, the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre in Singapore (HMGICS), and ComfortDelGro ENGIE (CDG ENGIE).
The Ioniq 5's 531 litres of trunk space, along with a frunk under the bonnet, should be more than enough even for family trips to the zoo The two Memorandum of Understandings for this new collaboration was signed between the firms at the Jurong Spring Community Centre on 26 May 2022.
This new move will see the Hyundai Motor Group's all-electric Ioniq 5 being available to book via GetGo's car sharing app - a first for any carsharing platform in Singapore.
The required charging for these vehicles meanwhile, will be supplied by CDG ENGIE's charging platform, which is set to grow by at least 479 chargers come 2023, after the firm won three of the total of five tenders drawn up by the LTA to install electric vehicle chargers across 200 public carparks islandwide.
The new move will also contribute to the Singapore government's plans to convert Jurong Spring into an electric-vehicle ready town.
Charging for the Ioniq 5s will be provided for by CDG ENGIE's charging network The new partnerships are said to be critical components of GetGo's long-term strategy to reduce Singapore's environmental footprint and increase the accessibility of shared electric cars.
The firm has also announced that it plans to deploy a 10,000-strong fleet of either fully electric or hybrid vehicles here in Singapore by 2030.
For now, a total of 10 EVs, inclusive of the Ioniq 5s, are scheduled to be deployed across the Jurong Spring Division within the next six months. Another 50 locally produced Ioniq 5s from the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre meanwhile, are also set to join the GetGo platform across the island next year.
The two Memorandum of Understandings between the firms were signed at the Jurong Spring Community Centre No exact booking rates for the Ioniq 5s have been revealed, although sgCarMart understands that the Ioniq 5 is being categorised as a 'premium EV' under its app, so there's a high chance that it will command a premium to drive.
Still, with an expected quiet drive and reasonable room for all passengers, the premium might be well worth it.
And you won't have to worry about the car's range either, with the two-wheel drive Ioniq 5 equipped with a 72.6kWh battery offering a total range of close to 470km. Having said that, we also understand that customers that need to charge their Ioniq 5s will see some reimbursement for their incurred costs.
