Volkswagen has revealed the first images and details of its new ID. Aero Concept.
Said to offer a foretaste of the brand's first global fully-electric sedan, the ID. Aero Concept features a stylish and aerodynamic exterior.
Up front, the concept gets a narrow light strip that extends horizontally across either side of the Volkswagen badge. This light strip sits above the IQ. Light LED matrix head lights, which wrap into the wings and side panels.
And from the flank, the aerodynamic considerations become more apparent. You'll notice the downward sloping roof line, coupled with the lack of door handles, here replaced by illuminated touch surfaces. These all contribute to the car's low 0.23 drag coefficient.
Sporty 22-inch aero wheels, integrated flush into the wheel housings finish of the view from the flank.
And at the rear, the car sports a dark light strip, which houses LED tail light clusters laid out in a honeycomb structure, repeating the pattern that appears within the front apron.
No interior details of the Volkswagen ID. Aero Concept have been revealed as yet, and neither has any information of the drivetrain been offered, although Volkswagen does state that the production version of the global fully-electric sedan which the ID Aero Concept teases will be based on the firm's MEB platform.
This vehicle is also said to utilise a lithium-ion 77kWh battery, which will be good for a range of 620km.
The production version of this concept is expected to go on sale in China, taking its place as the flagship of the ID. family, in the second half of 2023. The car will also be introduced to markets in North America and Europe, with the Europe-bound models already set to be produced at the firm's Emden plant from 2023.
