Sharp taillights and discreet model badging adorns the rear of the near-series prototype Volkswagen eventually canned further development of this new generation Phaeton, as it decided its energies would be better dedicated to bringing the firm into an electric age.
In spite of its generous proportions, the Phaeton D2 strikes a nondescript look, especially when measured up against the flashy touches that adorn so many of the present-day luxury limousines.
Volkswagen states that a flowing design, coupled with slightly domed roof lines were deliberately chosen here, intended to give this never-to-be Phaeton a timeless and unostentatious appearance.
The cabin screen layout is said to have inform the design of the Innovision Cockpit now presentin the current Volkswagen Touareg We can't help but notice how there's more than a passing similarity between the way the head lights and grille sit on this Pheaton D2, and how those on the Volkswagen Touareg are arranged.
Step into the concept and you'll also note how similar the layout of the screens is to those on the present-day Innovision Cockpit of the Volkswagen Touareg. This is of course, surrounded by acres of polished wood and leather.
And at the rear, there's also taillights that look much like those that sit on the present-day Skoda Superb.
