Honda has unveiled its all new CR-V for the U.S.A market. The SUV sports a rugged and sophisticated design, along with a new, more advanced fourth generation hybrid-electric system for a fuel-efficient, sporty and more capable driving experience.
The exterior design of this new CR-V is said to burrow from the design direction utilised in the firm's light trucks. A strong horizontal beltline highlights the CR-V's increased overall length, while a 41mm longer wheelbase and 258mm of additional width give it a more aggressive presence.
The CR-V also has had the base of its A-pillars repositioned 119mm rearward, 71mm outward and 36mm lower, a move which, together with new door-mounted side mirrors, is said to give the SUV sportier proportions and improved outward visibility.
Interior comfort and space meanwhile, has also been improved with this Honda CR-V. Honda states that the front-to-rear-seat distance has been increased by 15mm for more rear seat legroom, while the rear seats now feature eight angles of recline for increased comfort.
The SUV also gets new front Body Stabilising Seats, which reduce fatigue over long drives, while the steering wheel angle is now positioned more sedan-like for a more comfortable, sportier driving position. Between the front seats meanwhile, sits a centre console that offers a total of nine litres of storage space, which Honda claims is the largest in its class.
The chassis of the Honda HR-V has also been revised for a sportier driving experience. Changes here include an extension of the wheelbase by 15mm to a total of 2,700mm for a smoother ride and greater on-road stability. The tracks of the SUV have also been widened for improved stability, while a 15% increase in torsional stiffness also aids handling and overall refinement.
These improvements will support a new stiffer subframe that holds a MacPherson strut front suspension and variable-ratio steering, said to have been repositioned for improved feel and accuracy. A stiffer rear subframe and retuned multilink suspension at the rear axle also gets 15% stiffer springs.
Drivetrain options for the new Honda CR-V in the U.S.A include a new fourth generation two-motor hybrid drivetrain that gets power from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that runs on the atkinson cycle, which delivers a combined system output of 201bhp and 335Nm of torque.
A 1.5-litre turbocharged unit paired to a CVT is also being offered, which has been updated to reduce noise and vibration.
