Volkswagen has updated its bestselling 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine and will be introducing the latest generation EVO2 engine into its European models.
The EVO2 engine makes it possible to reduce both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, with engines producing 146bhp.
A key technological improvement to the engine is the enhanced Active Cylinder Management System which improves activation and deactivation of the two cylinders to ensure that the engine runs smoothly.
When operating at low and medium speeds, the second and third cylinders do not fire, thus increasing efficiency.
The 1.5 TSI engine also features state of the art technology such as a high-pressure injection system and plasma coated cylinder walls to reduce friction. Pistons with cast-in cooling ducts are also present to optimise combustion and further reduce fuel consumption.
The engine is also designed to run with fuels manufactured from renewable energy sources, thus ensuring it is future proofed.
