A team of skilled craftspeople at Bentley have been signed-off to start production of the Bentayga Extended Wheelbase. The Bentayga EWB will be a benchmark for combining world-class luxury and technological innovation whilst demonstrating new heights of craftmanship and comfort.
Bentley claims that over 132 hours are required to handcraft the new flagship by the skilled craftspeople at the home of Bentleys carbon-neutral automotive factory in Crewe. The new model will showcase lofted quilting, intricate veneer metal overlays, and offer a unique interior ambience with Bentley's Diamond Illumination.
Bentley expects over 50% of customer orders to include the Bentley Airline Seat Specification or Bentley Diamond Illumination, while around 30% of customers will opt from the extended paint range, as well as the metal overlays in the veneer and open pore wood.
Bentley's instantly recognisable diamond quilting has been reimagined in a dramatic and contemporary new design in the Bentley Bentayga EWB.
Developed and executed through a combination of digital craftsmanship and precision technology, the symmetrical pattern at the top of the seat backs stretches the diamonds as they move away from the centre line of the seats. The doors, in turn, boasts an asymmetric pattern, that accentuates the length of the door and the rear cabin as a whole.
Within each diamond, the flawless leather is perforated with holes of less than 1mm diameter. Each hole has been digitally positioned with precision by one of Bentley's interior designers to achieve a cohesive overall design - the 'digital-crafting' process.
The woodwork in the latest Bentayga will also be finished to an exceptionally high quality. The wood veneer is shaped and polished to tolerances measured in the tenths of a millimetre. The wood set in each Bentayga EWB also takes over 10 hours to curate and will see the first use of the Metal Overlay in Veneer feature a Bentayga.
One stand out feature is the Bentley Diamond Illumination, where an illumination effect is achieved using a total of 68 LEDs that emit light through small perforation 1mm in diameter in the leather trim on the door panels. The feature is linked with the mood lighting to ensure consistent colour and intensity of light throughout the car.
