  • Singapore's Motoring Heritage Day 2022 in pictures

The 2022 event saw close to 20 classic vehicles, stretching all the way back to the 1930s, gathered at Dempsey Hill in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation.

The parking lots at Dempsey Hill regularly play host to some of the most exquisite models Singapore car’s scene has to offer.

But on 25 September 2022, the venue took a special dive back into the past as Singapore's Motoring Heritage Day sputtered to life once more. Approximately 20 classic cars - and countless visitors and car enthusiasts - braved the wet weather, and showed up in support of the event despite the gloomy skies hanging over in the morning.

The MGB Roadster, once a common sight on our roads, celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2022
The annual event, which is spearheaded by the Malaysia and Singapore Vintage Car Register (MSCVCR), is often cited as the largest gathering of vintage cars locally. The cross-border body of enthusiasts was established in 1955 and encourages the "use and preservation of period cars and bikes in Asia".

2022's iteration of the gathering once again brought together automotive stars from both sides of the Atlantic, spanning the 1980s all the way back the pre-war 1930s.

These included the likes of the 1970 Porsche 911E - once the quickest accelerating 911 - as well as the 1955 Pontiac Chieftain, which was already capable of an impressive 180bhp in its time, thanks to its Strato Streak V8 engine.

The event also celebrated the 60th anniversary of the MGB Roadster, which was produced between 1962 to 1980, and was apparently also a common sight on our roads between the 1960s and 1970s. Naturally, classic mainstays such as the Volkswagen Beetle and Kombi Van were also present.

Most of the vehicles at the event were registered under the Classic Vehicle Scheme, for which only vehicles at least 35 years old and above (from their original registration date) are eligible, as well as the Vintage Vehicle Scheme. According to the LTA, a vehicle is considered 'vintage' if it was manufactured before 1 January 1940.

Returning after a two-year pause, the 2022 Motoring Heritage Day was also exceptionally meaningful as it was organised in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF). Ticketed joy rides around Dempsey Hill were held throughout the event for visitors, with proceeds going fully to the foundation.
