Lotus has unveiled the specifications of its highly anticipated Lotus Eletre SUV. The Hethel based sports car company claims that the SUV will retain the core principles and Lotus DNA from its illustrious 75-year history, despite it being the polar opposite of a Lotus Elise.
The Eletre prides itself as the child of Lotus teams all around the world, namely the Lotus Tech Creative Centre in the United Kingdom, the Lotus Tech Innovation Centre in Germany, and the Lotus Tech engineering and manufacturing teams in China.
The Lotus Eletre is a heavy beast, but will be able to sprint from zero to 100km/h in just 2.95 seconds in Eletre R specification Lotus reports that thousands of customers around the world have already placed deposits for the Eletre SUV. Three different versions are available for the Eletre, namely the Eletre, Eletre S and Eletre R.
The Eletre and Eletre S will feature a 595bhp powertrain with a maximum range of 600km. The range topping Eletre R will come with 895bhp, coupled to a dual-speed system and have a range of 490km. Torque figures are rated at 710Nm and 985Nm respectively. Zero to 100km/h timings are impressive, with 4.5 seconds and 2.95 seconds quoted.
All Eletre versions will boast a 112kWh battery, with a charging time of just 20 minutes for a 10% to 80% charge.
An advanced digital cockpit will feature on the Eletre, known as Lotus Hyper OS. Lotus will use 'Unreal Engine' technology from the gaming industry, allowing the Lotus User Experience / User Interface (UX/UI) team to create next generation, real time 3D content and experiences.
Lotus claims that the Hyper OS system will provide a seamless interactive experience that offers competitive performance in terms of visual effects and interactive feedback, putting the user in complete control.
Being a premium priced SUV also means that the Eletre SUV will possess an interior wildly different from the stripped down interior of an Exige. It will come with with wireless smartphone charging, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats, four-zone automatic climate control and many other features.
Also standard is the deployable LIDAR technology, a world first in a production car, which supports end to end autonomous driving (AD) technology. Integrated software update capability ensures the system will be fully ready when individual market regulations allow for the more advanced levels of AD.
Six unique interiors will be made available, all offering premium materials and detail choices. Sustainability has been at the heart of the development. For example, the Eletre is available with an alternative to leather that is environmentally friendly, odour-free, and lasts longer than genuine leather.
Lotus also says that it is working on technology, which will allow customers to drive on the Nurburgring autonomously, allowing customers to experience 'thrilling driving performance' and 'dynamic capability' of the Eletre without any input. That said, we are unsure what Lotus purists will feel about this feature, but we look forward to seeing the car in the flesh.
