If you frequently take the bus or train, there could soon be some art for you to take in on your commute!
This new development comes thanks to a new 'Gift of Art' programme, launched be the LTA. This new programme will allow both organisations and individuals to donate an existing artwork or sponsor a commissioned artwork for display at the public areas of MRT stations.
Lookout for these three 'Bo-Men' when you take the Thomson-East Coast Line in the future And to kick off this programme, two sets of three 'Bo-Men' sculptures created by Artist Daisy Boman are already scheduled to be displayed. You'll have to wait for the upcoming Thomson-East Coast Line Shenton Way station to spot the first set, and the other set will take its place at Pasir Panjang station.
Donated by PSA International, the sculptures are said to reflect the purposeful energy of workers commuting to and from the Central Business District.
Two bronze sculptures, the first of a baby Indian elephant,and the second, a baby black rhinoceros - both endangered animals - have also been donated by Keppel Corporation for display at Circle Line Keppel station. These sculptures are part of a 62-piece creation by Australian Artists Gillie and Marc to raise awareness on biodiversity, conservation, and sustainability.
And you can expect plenty more still to come. The LTA states that it will work with potential donors to select and place donated art pieces which are relatable, accessible and relevant to the locations where they will be placed. These pieces of course, will need to meet various safety, security, and structural as well durability requirements.
The new Gift of Art programme will complement the existing Art in Transit Programme.
