Porsche has confirmed that it will releasing the much-anticipated Porsche 911 Dakar at the Los Angeles Motor show on 17 November 2022. The model's name is a nod to the first overall victory by Porsche in the Paris-Dakar rally.
The 911 Dakar was put through a harsh testing programme by Porsche, testing the 911 Dakar around the world under extreme conditions to the tune of more than half a million kilometres, including more than 10,000km off-road.
The Chateau de Lastours track in France utilised by Porsche to develop the 911 Dakar, is also patronised by Dakar teams The Chateau de Lastours test track in southern France, for example, was used to test the car's handling on typical rally courses and to fine-tune the suspension. The track's loose surfaces helped put the Porsche 911 Dakar to the test.
The French track has also historically been utilised by Dakar teams for testing before the actual rally.
The new 911 Dakar also had to prove itself on fast sand tracks and high dunes. In Dubai and Morocco, test drivers drove the off-road sports car up steep, 50m dunes in temperatures of up to 45 degrees Celsius repeatedly.
