  • BMW to showcase i Vision Dee concept at CES 2023

The BMW i Vision Dee not only sports a colour changing exterior, but will also feature a head-up display that spans the width of its windscreen.

BMW has revealed that it will showcase a new i Vision Dee concept at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show.

The BMW i Vision Dee takes the form of a charming and futuristic mid-size sedan, sporting a thoroughly pared down design language.

The exterior of the BMW i Vision Dee concept is said to be able to alternate between 32 different colours
This sheet metal is also covered in an evolution of the E Ink technology that we first saw on the BMW iX Flow. But here, instead of simply being able to alternate between white and black, the technology is now able to change between 32 colours.

The exterior of the car is also said to be divided into a total of 240 E Ink segments, each of which can be controlled individually, allowing what is said to be an almost infinite variety of patterns to be generated and varied within seconds.

But what will truly impress we think, is the technology within the cabin of the BMW i Vision Dee concept.

Shy-tech sensors on the dashboard of the concept car will allow users to pick from five different levels of interaction with virtual content
Described by BMW as being intelligent with almost human capabilities, this technology promises not only to accompany drivers not only through real-life situations on the roads, but also in their digital environment.

So far, what has been revealed of the concept car here is the fact that it will sport an advanced head-up display that can span the entire width of the windscreen.

Interacting with this head-up display, meanwhile, will be done courtesy of a Mixed Reality Slider. This slider will take the form of shy-tech sensors on the instrument panel, and will allow users to choose between five different levels of interaction with virtual content. These two technologies will work in tandem with dimmable windows, so as isolate users from what's going on outside the vehicle.

A standard production version of this technology is said to be scheduled to appear in future BMW models based on the Neue Klassse architecture from 2025 onwards.
