The LTA has announced that it has called for tender for these seven towns, now set to get new cycling paths under the next phase of its Islandwide Cycling Network (ICN) programme.
The new cycling paths are set to get progressively completed by 2024 The additional paths mean increased connectivity to transport nodes and neighbourhood centres, and if you're curious as to just how connected you could be, we have the various maps of the new cycling paths from the LTA inserted into the gallery above.
As these networks will make their way through mature estates where space is already constricted, the LTA states that repurposing of road space and adjustments to facilities such as drains, bus stops and staircases may be needed in order to make way for the widening of existing footpaths to create more space for walking and cycling.
This new addition comes after the LTA recently opening new cycling infrastructure within our very own Central Business District, as well as an additional 30km of cycling paths that have been added to Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Taman Jurong, Tampines and Toa Payoh. All these, the LTA also states, brings our nation's current network to a total of 530km.
The ICN programme aims to expand Singapore's cycling network by a total of 1,300km by 2030. When realised, this will allow eight in 10 HDB residents to be within minutes of their nearest cycling path network.
