Amidst the flurry of new cars flying out onto the stands of the 2023 Motor Show, Citroen Singapore has unveiled its first passenger BEV to local customers.
The shape is one you won't be unfamiliar with since it's effectively a fully-electrified version of the quirky-looking Citroen C4. In place of a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine, however, the e-C4 gets a single electric motor producing 130bhp (97kW) and 260Nm of instant torque. It is thankfully granted Cat A COE classification as a result, since it ducks under the specific power ceiling of 110kW for EVs.
Since this is an all-electric car, you won't find any tailpipes on the e-C4's rear bumper How does one instantly differentiate the e-C4 from the C4, you may ask? Like one of its Stellantis Group-mates, the e-C4 gets tiny 'e' badges dotted around its sheet metal. The brushed metal surrounds of its fog lights and on its front door sills are also blue (they're silver on the C4), while the electric crossover naturally has no tailpipes.
Drawing power from a 50kWh lithium-ion battery, Citroen is claiming a range of 363km for the e-C4 on a full charge. The crossover supports DC charging at up to 100kW, at which a 10-minute charge will top up 100km of range. A 30-minute charge at the same rate takes the battery to an 80% state-of-charge.
On the other hand, the e-C4 supports AC charging at up to 11kW for a full recharge within a respectable five hours.
The e-C4 will come with the same comfort-oriented interior and features as the C4 We've noted the C4 to excel best in the area of providing driving comfort, and an electric drivetrain now promises to take this to even greater heights in the e-C4. Citroen says the electric crossover provides a smooth and quiet drive and superior levels of refinement, since it reduces the noise and vibrations from ICE cars.
The same Advanced Comfort Programme found in the C4 has also made its way into the e-C4. This includes Citroen's proprietary 'Progressive Hydraulic Cushions' - to give the car a remarkably pliant ride - and Advanced Comfort Seats. The visibly padded seats are crafted from high-density foam made to avert deformation over time, while offering both softness and support. Both front seats also provide lumbar and height adjustment.
Additionally, among the high tech features on the e-C4 is an adaptive cruise control system with a built-in 'Stop & Go' function, which is powered by a camera and radar on board. When activated, the system will not only maintain the driver's pre-determined distance at speed, but also come to a complete halt and then move off again without any extra action.
Available now for your viewing at the Suntec Convention Centre now, the e-C4 is being offered with a $10,000 discount on its launch price if bought at the Motor Show, with which it retails at $159,999.
