Toyota has unveiled its new Grand Highlander just ahead of the opening day of the Chicago Auto Show.
The Grand Highlander takes the all-round practicality of the regular Highlander to a new level, with more space for passenger and cargo available thanks to a stretched body.
Opt for the Hybrid Max powertrain and your Grand Highlander will come with a dual exhaust system Toyota states that the Grand Highlander offers not only an adult-sized third row, but also comes with room for seven carry-on suitcases behind the third row of seats. A total of 2,775 litres of space are available in the Toyota Grand Highlander with all seats folded down.
On the outside, the Grand Highlander can be identified thanks to its trapezoidal front grille and slim, angular head lights. Body-coloured rear pillars and rockers panels finished in black help complete the strong, SUV look.
Built upon the TNGA-K platform, the Toyota Grand Highlander has been designed to ferry all in comfort for everything from short trips to long drives.
Toyota states that the third row of the Grand Highlander will offer enough space even for adults To this effect, beyond the generous space offered in the cabin, the Grand Highlander comes with an air-conditioning control panel for second-row passengers, and offers a total of 13 cup holders big enough for large water bottles and seven USB-C charge ports to keep devices charged and at the ready.
A 12.3-inch multimedia display also comes as standard for the Toyota Grand Highlander. This infotainment system will come with the ability to receive software updates over-the-air, and will support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Voice recognition technology also means passengers will be able to search for directions, find points of interest, adjust audio controls, and change the cabin temperature all via voice commands.
The Toyota Grand Highlander is being offered in the U.S.A with three powertrain options. The first will utilise a 2.4-litre petrol engine, while the second is a hybrid drivetrain, equipped with a 2.5-litre engine. Both these engine options will be available with front-wheel or all-wheel drive.
A third, 'Hybrid Max' option is also going to be offered, which Toyota simply states, will offer a total of 357bhp and 542Nm of torque. This drivetrain will come with all-wheel drive as standard, and will see the SUV powering to 96km/h from a standstill in 6.3 seconds.
