  • GrabShare expands to cover Changi Airport

    10 Mar 2023

Visitors arriving to Singapore at Changi Airport will now be able to utilise GrabShare and share a ride to get to their destinations.

Expecting visitors from overseas? They will soon be able to enjoy an easier ride-hailing experience from Changi Airport.

Local ride-hailing platform Grab, has announced that it will be expanding its GrabShare Beta service to Changi Airport terminals two and three, starting from 9 March 2023. The new service, which will be available from 5:00pm to 12:00am daily, will allow two passengers who are travelling light and not in a rush, to share a Grab ride at a lower fare.

GrabShare will be available from 5:00pm to 12:00am daily at Changi Airport Terminal two and three
The expansion of the GrabShare service comes as passenger traffic through the airport returns to 80% of pre-pandemic levels. Grab states that the move will allow it to ease the driver shortage resulting from this visitor growth, while offering visitors to Singapore new affordable transport options.

And private-hire drivers need not hesitate picking up these rides. Grab states that the new service has been redesigned based on feedback from users and driver-partners. And in response to this feedback, the Changi Airport-specific GrabShare service will, firstly, only match passengers within the same terminal to the same ride.

Secondly, the service will also assign pickups based on the sequence of door numbers starting with the one nearest to the driver. And finally, passengers utilising the service will only be allowed one 27-inch piece of luggage each. All these moves will ensure that Grab's partner-driver need not make lengthy detours, while minimising the wait times for passengers.

The 'Venues' feature has also been improved, and now offers users the ability to look at images of each pick-up point prior to selecting the one they want
And there's plenty of improvements being made for those hailing rides as well.

Tourists looking to catch a ride will soon no longer need to download the Grab app on their phones. Instead, Grab will make its ride-hailing service available for booking through messaging platforms such as WeChat and Whatsapp. Booking a ride will be possible via a Grab 'mini programme' on WeChat, while WhatsApp users can book Grab rides through a chatbot accessed via a QR code.

Once a ride is booked, ride details such as the estimated time of arrival, driver details, and contact details will be provided. This functionality is planned to roll out by the end of March 2023.

Finally, Grab has improved its existing 'Venues' feature, a navigation tool which provides passengers with in-app photo and text directions to get to their selected pick-up point. With the latest version, passengers will now be able to look at images of each pick-up point prior to selecting the one they want and get turn-by-turn directions to it before they book their ride. This helps them more accurately select the pick-up point they wish to meet their driver at and get there easily, which in turn reduces drivers' wait time and eases congestion at pick-up points
