Mazda has announced that its MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV plug-in hybrid has received a five star safety rating by the car safety performance assessment programme Euro NCAP, as the results of the battery-electric MX-30 e-Skyactiv EV tested in 2020 now officially apply to the new plug-in hybrid derivative.
Both derivatives of the Mazda MX-30 are said to have scored impressively on all four of the programme's test categories. The cars also achieved maximum points in the lateral impact tests, as well as full marks for crash test performance based on six and 10-year old children for both frontal and lateral impact.
The Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactive R-EV plug-in hybrid makes use of a 17.8KWh battery, allowing it to deliver a 85km electric-only range. Once this power has been utilised, the car can then call upon its new 0.8-litre rotary engine to act a generator to enable longer distance drives without range or charging anxiety. The combination of the 17.8kWh battery and 50-litre fuel tank mean the plug-in hybrid has a claimed range of over 600km.
