  • Seletar Sunday Cycling Lane to become permanent after six-month pilot

The move follows observations that most users had adhered to their allocated lanes, with traffic and bus operations continuing smoothly in the process.

Good news has arrived for the cycling enthusiasts among us: The Sunday Cycling Lane @ West Camp Road, previously just a trial, is soon set to become permanent.

News of the pilot was announced all the way back in March 2022, then confirmed again in late August of the year, before it was finally opened to the public on 16 October 2022. The scheme has been in operation every Sunday morning since, from 5:00am to 11:00am.

The cycling lane is painted in blue, with road markings indicating its operating hours
Running in both directions across West Camp Road (near Seletar Aerospace Park), the cycling lanes are marked out in solid blue, which become dotted near junctions and development accesses. Only buses and cyclists are allowed in the lanes during the allocated hours. Unlike other parts of Singapore, there are also no limits on cyclist group sizes within the lane's designated hours.

The move to make the Sunday Cycling Lane permanent comes after observations that "nearly all users" - motorists, bus drivers and cyclists - had adhered to their allocated lanes during the operating hours.

In tandem, the LTA has said that it is studying other locations where vehicular traffic is low to implement the scheme for large group cycling. As yet, there is still only one dedicated cycling lane on Singapore's public roads, along Tanah Merah Coast Road.
