"The Zagato design language is a perfect complement to our design and engineering expertise. After 50 years of the two companies being associated with each other the partnership has produced some of the world's most iconic cars," says Aston Martin CEO Dr Ulrich Bez.
The V12 Zagato is a two-door, two-seat coupe with a handcrafted aluminium body, a bonded aluminium structure and a bespoke steel roll cage. Distinct design features include the double-bubble roof. The car was worked on by a team of engineers led by Chris Porritt, who also designed the Aston Martin One-77 supercar.
The Aston Martin V12 Zagato features a mid-mounted 6.0-litre V12 engine that produces 510bhp and 570Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed automated manual gearbox. The car will be displayed at the Villa D'Este Concours on May 21, and will then be entered in the four-hour VLN race at Nürburgring on May 28 and also make an appearance at the Nürburgring 24 hour endurance race on June 25 and 26.
The V12 Zagato, as the concept is called, is based on Aston Martin’s V12 Vantage model, and was designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the two companies’ collaboration. Aston Martin and Zagato first worked on the DB4GT Zagato way back in 1961, and have since produced a few other bespoke models such as the V8 Vantage Zagato and DB7 Zagato.
