NSX Concept revealed at Detroit 2012

Acura, the luxury division of Honda, have showcased the NSX concept at the 2012 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The company reveals that the new NSX will feature lightweight construction with a mid-mounted engine, amongst other new technological innovations.

The highlight is an in-house developed sports hybrid system (SH-AWD® or Super Handling All Wheel Drive™). Comprising of a unique 2 Electric Motor Drive Unit, the system can alternate between torque and drag generation instantly when the car negotiates a bend. Power-plant is a revised version of the V6 VTEC engine with direct-injection. A dual-clutch transmission coupled with built-in electric motor will complete the drivetrain package.

Acura aims for the NSX to be production-ready within the next three years. R&D will be lead by an engineering team in Honda America, with production taking place in a plant in Ohio.
