Mazda6's potential replacement makes its North American debut at the Big Apple

Mazda's Takeri concept continues its world tour by stopping over at the big apple’s motor show.
The potential replacement Mazda6 is making its way to the New York Motor Show for its debut North American appearance scheduled from April 4th to the 15th. It made its world premiere at the Tokyo Auto Salon last December to much praises, before travelling to Geneva early this month.
Embracing the new 'KODO' design language, the sharp and athletically styled Takeri is expected to heavily influence the new Mazda6 which should arrive in markets next year. The 4,850mm car is expected to be powered by a SKYACTIV-D 2.2-litre diesel engine linked to a new 6-speed automatic transmission in Europe, Japan and North America. It features an i-stop idling and i-Eloop systems.
The i-Eloop is the world’s first capacitor based regenerative breaking system which, similar to KERS, recaptures energy lost by braking. However the i-Eloop uses the stored energy to recharge the car's battery and to help power electric components like the heating and air conditioning systems.
The technology involved includes variable voltage alternators and a DC/DC converter and things that only electrical engineers would understand. For those curious, refer to the little chart at the end, that explains the system better. Pricing and petrol engine options are currently not available.
