After leaving Formula One a few years ago due to a decision by corporate headquarters, Toyota Motorsport has been hunting for a new project ever since. The TS030 Hybrid, an advanced Le Mans prototype was being prepared to campaign in the new FIA World Endurance Championship.
However, during testing at Paul Ricard in the south of France, the Toyota TS030 Hybrid was involved in an accident which damaged the team's only monocoque. The damage is too severe for repair because the chassis damage is very extensive and a replacement monocoque cannot be produced and tested for reliability within the limited time available.
Therefore Toyota Racing has informed the organizers of the FIA World Endurance Championship its decision to withdraw from the WEC Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, to be held on 5th May. The team will make its first appearance at the Le Mans 24 Hours in June.
Yoshiaki Kinoshita, Toyota Racing Team President is deeply saddened to announce this decision and send his empathies to the team and fans. Toyota will prepare a new monocoque to resume testing and prepare itself for the highlight race in June.
