Singapore's initiative of lowering its carbon footprint just got a helping hand. Electric vehicles roaming around our little red dot can charge up at City Square Mall when running low (and go window shopping or have a nice meal, while waiting). The shopping centre located along Jalan Besar installed a charging point back in July - the first shopping centre here to do so.
City Square Mall's Centre Director Lionel Chua was glad the mall was selected by the Electric Vehicle Task Force to install the charging station.
Mr Chua explained, "As Singapore's first eco-mall, we are committed to shaping a greener future and in promoting green living. It is a facility that we feel is important to provide in the changing landscape of environmentally friendly products."
There are over 37 charging points islandwide including the installation at City Square Mall. The charging points will benefit about 50 EV's currently on trial under a national pilot scheme since June last year.
The project was initiated by the Energy Market Authority and Land Transport Authority - with participation from 28 companies and public sector organisations. The project ends next year with an objective to test the practicality of various EV models and charging technologies in Singapore's urban, tropical environment.
