At 13,000rpm, the SLS Electric Drive propels to a 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds to reach an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h making the 'Green' gullwing the world's fastest production EV.
Tapping the expertise of experts from its Formula One team, for KERS technology, the high-voltage battery, consisting of 12 modules each comprising 72 lithium-ion cells is engineered with collaboration between Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains in Britain. The battery weighs 548kg and boasts energy content of 60kWh, an electric load potential of 600kW. The liquid-cooled lithium-ion high-voltage battery features a maximum voltage of 400V. Like most EV or Hybrid system, the high-voltage battery can gain power through deceleration.

The SLS Electric Drive is charged with aid from a 'wall box'. Installed in a garage, it provides a three hour quick-charge function. Normal charging takes around 20 hours sans the wall box. As always going green has not compromised on safety, with the SLS Electric Drive utilising an eight-stage safety design.
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive will see the market in 2013 costing €416,500 (S$662,920).
The most powerful AMG vehicle also got a lot blue in a bid to be green. Fitted with four electric motors to produce a total output of 740bhp and a maximum torque of 1000Nm. The electric motor weighs 45kg, each, and distributes varied torque to individual wheels via an axially-arranged transmission design.

As most EV's are near silent during operation, a unique start-up sound starts the exhilarating driving experience at the press of the 'Power' button. A custom driving sound for each driving situation - acceleration, cruising and regeneration enhances the driving experience while keeping the driver alert on current driving mode. The impressive audio feedback comes courtesy of a sound system equipped with eleven loudspeakers.
