The report comes from French magazine L’Automobile, which says that BMW will bring a new 'i' model, dubbed the i4, to the L.A. Auto Show in November. The i4 concept could very well be based on the i3 albeit a sportier version with two seats and two doors. Similar to the other two cars in the 'i' lineup, the i3 and i8, the i4 concept will adopt the CFRP (Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic) technology. In terms of size, it should be just about the size of i3.
The new concept could inherit the i3's hybrid drivetrain consisting of a rear axle-mounted plug-in system with a compact electric motor. Energy will be drawn from the battery for providing drive to rear wheels through a single-speed gearbox. However, it is expected to get more power than the i3 which currently produces 168bhp and 250Nm of torque.
Stay tuned for more details on the i4 concept.
