Porsche has officially revealed the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup - what Porsche claims to be the most successful race car in the world.

2,395 units of the 911 GT3 have been produced for the past 14 years. After a heart inducing teaser trailer (posted on our Facebook Page), Porsche has revealed the new 911 (991 series) GT3 Cup racer - which also hints the future road going variant 911 GT3.

The 911 GT3 Cup will be exclusively run in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in 2013. Powered by a 3.8-litre six cylinder flat engine, it generates 460bhp mated to a six-speed gearbox developed by Porsche Motorsport, operated through shift paddles.

The current 911 GT3 cup also wears a newly designed single piece race wheels wrapped by slightly wider Michelin race slicks. Braking capabilities are also improved thanks to a newly developed race braking system incorporating 380mm steel brake rotors.

Driver safety is of paramount importance in any motorsport. Similarly Porsche has enhanced safety features in the GT3 Cup with a better designed safety cage on top of a new race seat. Topping off the safety features is a rescue hatch in the roof that allows medical crew easy access and extrication of the driver.

"The new 911 GT3 Cup is much easier to drive at the limit. The car is excellently balanced. The new axle geometry is enormously positive for the handling. Apart from that, the new Cup 911 is great fun to drive," concluded Porsche Works driver, Timo Bernhard, who had significant inputs on the new vehicle.

Akin to its predecessor, the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is produced in Stuttgart, on the same assembly lines as the road legal models.
