  • Aston gives the Rapide an update - sticks an S badge to its name

Aston Martin has unveiled the successor for the stunning Rapide sedan, the Rapide S, possessing more power and even more luxury.

The iconic British moniker has given its elegant Rapide sedan a little makeover to ensure it retains its top spot as the World's most beautiful, and beautifully balanced, four-seater sports car. The new Rapide S does not only offer more luxury than its predecessor, the Rapide, but also features an update to its design and engineering aspects.

The most striking change happens upfront. Aston has evolved the Rapide's design from 'just a stretched DB9' to an identity of its own with the Rapide S. The refined Aston grille is now wider and replicates the one from the One-77 model, for an instantly recognisable Aston Martin design language.

Changes to the styling upfront is matched by the equally refined changes at the rear, with the dominant boot lid spoiler adding a visual feast, on top of aiding the aerodynamic properties of the car.

The changes go beyond the 'skin' as the powertrain is given a deserving update as well. The Rapide S is powered by the new naturally aspirated 6.0-litre V12 delivering 550bhp and 620Nm of torque. The improved power reduces the century sprint by 0.3 seconds to 4.9 seconds before reaching a maximum top speed of 305km/h. The increase in power does not hinder efficiency of the engine with carbon emissions of 332g/km while providing a 8km/L range.

The cabin has been given an update as well, with a host of new luxury or sports orientated options including a new piano black interior that dominates the cabin with deep, mirror-like shine surrounding signature Aston features like the glass transmission selector switches in the centre console. Those who prefer a sportier interior can opt for the red and black leather trim. Improved aural management also ensures the cabin is filled with 'desirable sound' and eliminates 'noise'.

Those seeking to further customised options in your cabin can seek the assistance of the 'Q by Aston Martin' department for a bespoke and luxurious personalisation programme. The Aston Martin Rapide S is available for order via the global network of 146 dealers starting next month.
