Ferrari's best kept secret and the successor to the critically acclaimed Enzo Ferrari - the LaFerrari - made its Asian debut at the Shanghai Motor Show.
Just like in Geneva, Ferrari claims the LaFerrari was the star attraction of the motor show, attracting the most attention from the press and public.
There were a sea of photographers and cameramen in front of the Ferrari stand, right from the opening of the show, waiting for the moment when Amedeo Felisa, Managing Director of Ferrari, unveiled the new halo car for the first time in Asia.
More than the car, at the event, Felisa also placed equal emphasis on the extensive work carried out by Ferrari to reduce consumption and emissions of its range of cars - by 40 percent in the past five years despite the increase in power of around 100bhp.
The fact that much attention is being paid to environmental themes in China is underlined by Ferrari's involvement in the 'One Million Trees' project. Currently up to 67,000 trees have been planted by Ferrari in a desert area, to compensate for the emissions of its cars used on Chinese roads last year.
In his speech, Felisa said, "China is strategically very important for us and we will continue to invest in this market. As of today, we already have 25 dealerships and to the intention is to reach 30 in 2013, before adding a further five the following year."
Ferrari obtained very positive sales performance in Greater China in 2012, and became the second market in the world for the Prancing Horse with around 800 cars sold. Ferrari reports the first quarter results for this year have also been positive.
