  • Ferrari to switch focus to 2014's single seat racer

Scuderia Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali, has hinted that the team will focus on the 2014 racer from the end of September.

The world of Formula One is about to embark on one of the biggest technical changes in recent history, by switching to smaller and more efficient 1.6-litre V6 power units with enhanced energy recovery systems and the reintroduction of turbocharging. This requires a clean slate in engineering and design with the 2014 cars to be different from the current chassis.

Eric Boullier, Team Principal at Lotus, believes only Infiniti Red Bull has the resources to continue developing its 2013 car until the end of the season while Domenicali acknowledged Ferrari is close to the switching point.

"September is the month where we will basically start to shift, as the 2014 project is very complex. At the end of September we will then basically switch everyone, depending, of course, on how the situation is with the championship," Domenicali told the official Formula One website.

Currently Sebastian Vettel leads the championship boards at 197 points while Fernando Alonso trails at 151. On the constructors' championship, Infiniti Red Bull racing leads with 312 points while Ferrari is third at 218.

Additionally Ferrari has also announced, it will not make a 2014 season lineup announcement at the this weekend's Italian Grand Prix. The Italian marque has also dismissed rumours on signing current Lotus star driver, Kimi Raikkonen, to probably replace Felipe Massa. Massa who has been with the Prancing Horse team since the 2006 season, last won at the 2008 season concluding Brazilian Grand Prix. That year he also lost the drivers' championship by a single point to Lewis Hamilton.

This year, Massa's best result was at the Spanish Grand Prix where he finished third and is currently seventh with 67 points in the leader boards.
