Toyota has introduced a series of improvements for the 2014 Land Cruiser including improved styling, enhanced interior and revised handling. The reworked design preserves the model's distinctive identity, while the interior changes raise quality, convenience and ease of use. Detailed adjustments to the suspension systems - both the standard set-up and the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) featured on higher grade models deliver even better stability and ride comfort.
Toyota has introduced a more prominent grille with an evolved arrangement of the five parallel vertical bars for a stronger appearance.
The new headlamp clusters and daytime running lights (DRL) now form a single unit. The entire front fascia is set higher to prevent damage during off-road driving. The lamp units incorporate the high and low beam lights, turn indicators and DRLs.
In spite of adding 20mm to the front overhangs, its design does not hinder the vehicle's turning circle or its approach angle when driving off-road.
The cabin gains new trims and detailing that raises the overall tactile and perceived quality. The dashboard has been redesigned with more focus to accessibility while the centre console gains a new switch panel that integrates the controls for the on and off-road driving technologies.
The driver can select the screen functions using a control on the steering wheel, with additional new options including tyre pressure warning, headlamp levelling, traction control status and Blind Spot Monitor alerts.
The speedo and tachometer have a new look, with thinner needles and blue illumination, and brushed metal highlighting several areas above the seven-inch display. Piano black and wood grain finishes highlight the cabin while an aluminium detailing have been applied on several areas.
In the five-door Land Cruiser, access to the third row of seats is now easier, courtesy of an increase in the folding angle of the second row seats to 46 degrees.
In the U.K., the Land Cruiser will continue to use the 188bhp rated 3.0-litre turbodiesel engine, matched to a five-speed automatic transmission. 420Nm of torque is available from 1,600 to 3,000rpm while the benchmark century sprint is accomplished in 10.2 seconds for the three-door model and 11.0 seconds for the five-door model. CO2 emissions have been reduced slightly to 209 and 214g/km for three and five-door models respectively.
