Transport Minister Mr. Lui Tuck Yew has requested rail operator SMRT for an update on its investigations into the recent series of rail incidents.
Mr. Lui was at a meeting with SMRT Chief Executive Desmond Kuek and senior management when he conveyed his concern and disappointment over the disruptions in rail service.
The most recent took place on Wednesday evening, when a track fault caused train service between Tanah Merah and Pasir Ris to stop for an hour. It was found that the track fault was caused by a train captain who bypassed a signal point without authorisation.
Mr. Lui has urged SMRT to speed up the investigation process and determine if the faults were due to engineering or operational shortcomings. An update on remedial actions will be submitted by SMRT next week.
