GS Yuasa ECO-R battery provides your vehicle with the charge that it needs and remains environmentally friendly at the same time.

A car battery helps to power your car's engine and works together with the alternator to provide a charge for all the electrical and electronic accessories. However, they don’t last forever. The battery in your car can get old and won't be able to hold a charge or it can be 'drained' by accident.

Car batteries are drained when someone inadvertently leaves an electrical item, such as a radio, switched on in the vehicle without the engine running
Throughout the life of your vehicle, you will probably have to replace your car's battery a number of times. If you notice your headlights dimming, or if it's been three to seven years since you got a new battery, or the car needs a jump-start, it may be time for a change.

There are a few elements to be considered before you purchase a car battery. Size, cold-cranking amps, battery freshness (age) as well as reserve capacity are some important factors to think about.

Firstly, the size of the battery should match the size of the old one. Cold cranking amps (CCA) measures the amperage a battery produces at 0 degrees Celsius within 30 seconds. The higher the CCA number, the better the battery will start in the cold.

Next, you don't want to buy a car battery manufactured more than six months ago. The manufacture date will usually be shown in code on the battery. Lastly, and perhaps the most important, the reserve capacity lets you know how long the battery will run if the car's alternator dies.

    GS Yuasa

GS Yuasa is also the first Japanese battery manufacturer to develop environmental-friendly batteries
GS Yuasa is a Japanese company that manufactures lead acid automobile and motorcycle batteries as well as other sorts of batteries.

It was established in 2004 through the merger of Japan Storage Battery Co., Ltd. and Yuasa Corporation and the firm has been instrumental in building the foundation of automotive batteries.

GS Yuasa strives to respond to customers' needs by offering high technology with a view towards environmental friendliness.

    GS Yuasa ECO-R series

The ECO-R series is a range of environment-conscious batteries that are 100 percent made in Japan. The range consists of the ECO-R battery for normal use, the ECO-R LS battery meant for charge-controlled vehicles and the ECO-R IS battery for use in idling-start traffic conditions. The ECO-R IS battery can also be expected to be seen locally in the later part of the year.

This article aims to further understand the ECO-R battery and what it can do for you.

GS Yuasa ECO-R battery and its advantages

All ECO-R batteries are 100 percent made in Japan
The ECO-R battery is a high performance car battery that is friendly to the global environment, as it allows the car to reduce its CO2 emissions, and at the same time, improve fuel efficiency.

GS Yuasa actively adopts high quality materials in the production of the ECO-R battery. Made with high grade resin moulded together with advanced technology for use in the new battery, the point on environmental friendliness is thus emphasised.

By using high grade resin in the battery case, up to 12 percent of CO2 emissions can be reduced during production, compared to employing oither materials, therefore helping consumers to save the environment.

The Cast-On Strap (COS) process is also adopted in the manufacture of ECO-R batteries which greatly improves collector capacity and charge/discharge characteristics as the strap of conductive material is used to combine and electrically interconnect the current collector lugs of like polarity within a stack.

With the efficient retrieval of a larger amount of current, there is excellent start-up performance of the vehicle even in low temperatures.

The ECO-R battery is available in a range of sizes, from small ones weighing 8.5kg to bigger ones at 20.5kg
The ECO-R battery is also equipped with a vent valve, which enables the refill of water so as to maintain the correct electrolyte level, thus preventing battery explosion due to low electrolyte levels, increasing the battery's service lifespan.

Based on a life cycle test conducted by the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS), the ECO-R battery boasts 130 percent longer life as compared to a standard car battery.

Optimisation of the negative electrode active material densityand the amount of carbon contained in the negative electrode plate is carried out in the ECO-R battery.

Coupled with lithium in its electrolyte which encourages the reaction of the electrode surface, up to 22 percent of charge acceptance capability is increased over the ratio of a conventional car battery.

As a result, the ECO-R battery helps the vehicle to reduce its CO2 emissions by about two percent on average, as well as to obtain a two percent fuel economy improvement.

GS Yuasa has a a wide range of authorised distributors and retailers located around Singapore. Their information can be found here.
