Aston Martin's move to electrification is getting a boost thanks to a new grant awarded by the U.K.'s Advanced Propulsion Centre.
The grant, totalling $15 million (£9million), will be utilised to further supplement Aston Martin's research and development of its modular battery electric vehicle platform, alongside developments in vehicle light weighting, as well as the development of a digital toolchain and electrification training.
Aston Martin has pledged to invest $3.3 billion (£2billion) into the development of advanced technologies over the next five years as part of its 'Racing.Green' sustainability strategy. The investment will also see the firm phasing from the use of internal combustion engine to battery-electric technology.
The firm aims to launch its first all-electric vehicle by 2025. Its first plug-in hybrid vehicle - the mid-engined Valhalla - is set to be launched by 2024. By 2026, the firm also aims to offer an electrified powertrain option across its entire model line, while its core range is planned to be fully electrified by 2030.
