  • Bespoke services drive Bentley's stellar performance in 2023

Record levels of interest in luxury personalisation and an increased attraction to higher revenue models, drove Bentley's financial performance last year.

2023 was yet another wildly successful year for Bentley, as it achieved an overall revenue figure of approximately $4.3 billion (€2.938 billion), with 13,560 cars being delivered - the third highest figure in its history. Operating profits also rose by 43% year on year, reaching approximately $998 million (€589 million).

Interestingly, and specifically, Bentley states that the performance was heavily influenced by record levels of interest in luxury personalisation. In 2023, three-quarters of its customers apparently explored the whopping total of 46 billion different configurations that Bentley offers from both its options range, and bespoke Mulliner division.

Customisation services offered by Bentley formed the main driving force behind last year's financial results

Customers also became increasingly attracted to higher revenue models such as Azure, S and Speed. The sales of the mix of these three models increased to 70% last year, from just 30% in 2022.

Despite there being a 20.9% drop in the return of sales, Bentley states that this was due to upfront expenditures for future products, and planned reduced volumes due to life cycle effects.

Within its product portfolio, the Bentayga unsurprisingly retained its crown as the company's bestseller accounting for 44% of the company's sales. Bentley says that the SUV's sales performance last year also helped it hold on to its spot as the most successful luxury SUV in the world.

The Bentayga remains the brand's most well-loved model

The brand's clientele isn't skewed entirely towards SUVs, though. In 2023, there was still continued demand for the Continental GT and GT Convertible, which accounted for 31% of sales. On the other hand, the Flying Spur accounted for 25% of sales.

While America maintained its position last year as the brand's biggest selling international market, the U.K. - Bentley's home market - was the number one selling region for hybrid models by proportion; 27% of sales from relevant model lines came from the electrified variants.

On the note of expected uncertainty in market conditions, Chairman and CEO of Bentley, Adrian Hallmark, stated that Bentley will adapt its business to ensure it remains in a balanced position.

Above all, however, Bentley's latest financial performance supports its Beyond100 strategy, with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 being one of the key pillars. In line with this, the company is driving towards self-funding of the transformation of its entire product range towards full electrification.
