BMW has showcased its new Concept Skytop design study at the 2024 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, an annual beauty contest for historic cars and motorcycles held on the shores of Lake Como.
Taking cues from the Z8 and 503, the concept is said to sport a clean exterior designed to inspire a desire to travel. Aiding affairs here are taut and muscular surfaces that direct the vehicle's volume towards the rear. The car also gets a sweeping bonnet, which sits aft of a shark-nose that house an illuminated kidney grille.
The BMW Concept Skytop features a reddish-brown roof and a muted silver with chrome shadow effect exterior paintwork
Look closer and you'll notice touches including the use of winglets to replace conventional door handles, as well as those turbine-like light-alloy wheels.
At its centre, the BMW Concept Skytop features leather-finished roll-over bars, which combine with side fins on the B-pillar and a fully retractable rear window. This combination allows the roof to comprise of just two parts, which are finished in leather and are stored in the luggage space when not needed.
And the car’s exterior isn't this peculiar shade thanks to strange studio lighting: It comes with a reddish-brown tone roof and a silver with chrome shadow effect paintwork, said to be the product of an experienced master painter at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. These match the reddish-brown seats which in turn, contrast against the use of crystal in the rest of the cabin of the Concept Skytop.
