Mercedes-AMG has revealed the first images of a new Concept Mercedes‑AMG PureSpeed.
Designed to offer "a unique driving machine for connoisseurs", and serving as a preview and first model in the highly limited Mercedes-Benz Mythos series, only 250 examples of the Concept Mercedes‑AMG PureSpeed Speedster will be built.
The Concept Mercedes‑AMG PureSpeed features a Formula One Halo system, and comes with a custom clock designed by IWC Schaffhausen on its dashboard
The concept is said to take its inspiration from the firm's legendary race cars, including the use of two flying buttresses behind the seats (a touch from the 300 SLR in which Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson won the 1955 Mille Miglia in Italy), as well as a Le Mans red to graphite grey paintwork and the use of the number '10' on the car's front wings (a touch inspired by the Mercedes car at the 1924 Targa Florio race in Sicily.
But the Concept Mercedes‑AMG PureSpeed most takes after the Mercedes-AMG One. You'll see this design lineage via the concept's visible carbon fibre parts, which offer a visual contrast against the rounded forms of its upper section. The Concept Mercedes‑AMG PureSpeed also takes after the Mercedes‑AMG ONE with its front 'shark nose' design, wide lower air intake, and that singular air outlet on its bonnet.
Mercedes-AMG is also keen to highlight that the speedster makes use of a Halo system instead of conventional A-pillars. Described as a derivative of the system used in Formula One vehicles, the system consists of a bracket that is connected to the body of the vehicle and is designed to protect its occupants, while offering a field of vision that is unobstructed by neither roof, windscreen nor side windows.
Expect to see more of the Concept Mercedes‑AMG PureSpeed at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix.
