With the latest COE bidding session seeing yet another uptick in all private car categories, and with the upcoming 2026 iteration of The Car Expo, buyers - both first-timers and veterans alike - may be making a list of potential models to consider.
And with the gap between Cat A and B COE steadfastly closing, one might consider turning their attention towards BYD's newest offering in its lineup: The Seal 6 DM-i.
Offered as either as a sedan with two variants (Dynamic and Premium) or a stationwagon - Touring - with a single variant (Dynamic), the Seal 6 DM-i feature BYD's "Ocean Aesthetics" design philosophy, with an "Ocean X" front design, double-L signature headlamps, and sculpted dual waistlines.
The Seal 6 DM-i comes with exterior features such as auto windows with anti-trap, remote control window lift, rear windscreen with electric heating, and a stainless steel lower side trim.
Interior features remain largely the same across the board, with the Premium variant featuring more premium options
And with the Premium variant being the higher-end spec of the Seal 6 DM-i's range, it comes with premium features such as electric folding exterior mirrors, outside rear view mirror footlights, an automatic anti-glare inner rear view mirror, rain sensing wiper, a sunroof, and a stainless steel upper side window trim (the Touring has this too).
Five exterior colours are available for the Seal 6 DM-i: Palm Green (Pine Green on the Touring), Cosmos Black, Atlantis Grey, Arctic White, and Beach Beige.
Inside, all three variants come with a synthetic, leather-wrapped, multifunction steering wheel and an 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster. The comfort seats are made of synthetic leather, with six- and four-way power adjustable seats with ventilation function for the driver and passenger respectively. In addition, the driver seat comes with memory function.
In terms of tech, the Seal 6 DM-i offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, six speakers (eight on the Premium sedan variant), 4G network cloud service (not available on the Touring variant) and connectivity with OTA updates, and a 12.8-inch multimedia touchscreen. It also has rear air conditioning vents - a must in our climate - as well as keyless entry/exit and start/stop functions.
The sedan version of the Seal 6 DM-i offers 491 litres of boot space, while the stationwagon version offers 500 litres, both of which can go up to 1,535 litres with the rear seats folded down
And while the Seal 6 DM-i is fitted with a 1.5-litre engine and is a front-wheel drive on all options, both Dynamic variants for the sedan and Touring offer up a combined output of 174bhp and 210Nm of torque, while the sedan's Premium variant delivers 219bhp and 260Nm. Top speed remains the same across the board at 180km/h.
Both Dynamic variants for the sedan and Touring come with a 10.08kWh battery, while on the sedan's Premium variant, this goes up to 19kWh. The WLTP electric range differs among all three options: 55km for the Dynamic sedan variant, 105km for the Premium sedan variant, and 50km for the Touring.
Both the Dynamic variant of the sedan and Touring also offer 3.3kW of AC charging (6.6kW on the Premium sedan variant), with the Premium sedan variant the only one offering DC charging at a rate of 27kW.
BYD Singapore will be offering the Seal 6 DM-i Dynamic sedan at a price of $188,888, the Premium sedan at a price of $196,888, and the Seal 6 Touring Dynamic at a price of $192,888.
