To serve more booking commuters faster and ensure better income for their drivers, ComfortDelGro is equipping its taxis with new and more advanced mobile data terminals, reported The Straits Times.
Acting as a built-in taxi meter and payment system, computing fares and accepting cashless payments, the X-One mobile data terminal can wirelessly connect the booking despatch system to each cab. ComfortDelGro plans to install more than 6,000 of these devices will be installed in taxis over the next nine months.
The first batch was installed in 100 cabs in April. The company started to roll out the second batch of 1,900 units on Tuesday and expects to complete installation by August. The final batch of 4,400 pieces will be installed by the first quarter of 2016.
The X-One mobile data terminal has a higher resolution 7.0-inch LED display and a more user-friendly interface for cabbies. It now also comes with an on-roof antenna and a better GPS receiver that improves signal coverage and provides more accurate location detection. The device also uses three-dimensional landmarks, which are easier to view than the the two-dimensional graphics in its predecessor that cabbies use for navigation. Its central processing speed is also two times faster than the current devices.
It also has more storage capacity and higher random-access memory that shaves the average flipping screen time from one second to half a second. This allows cabbies to confirm booking jobs faster thus allowing them to take on more jobs.
