New batch of digital red light cameras at five busy junctions are designed to catch irresponsible motorists around the clock.

From this Saturday, the 1st of March, motorists hoping to beat the red lights at five busy intersections should be discouraged by the installation of new digital red light cameras.

The new wave of digitalised cameras have been installed at the following locations:
    • Victoria Street by Arab Street towards Lavender Street
    • Victoria Street by Ophir Road towards Bras Basah Road
    • Victoria Street by Rochor Road towards Lavender Street
    • Lavender Street by Jalan Besar towards Balestier Road and
    • Ophir Road by Beach Road towards the East Coast Parkway (ECP)
Unlike older cameras, the new digital ones do not require reloading and retrieval of film negatives for processing, and according to The Straits Times, have been designed to catch errant motorists around the clock.

The penalty for crossing a red light includes a fine and 12 demerit points. A motorist's licence could also be revoked if he was caught beating a red light twice within a period of 24 months.
