Mercedes-Benz Singapore has launched the new SL here at the 2023 Singapore Motor Show.
The quintessential Mercedes convertible is now a 2+2, comes with a fabric roof, and is offered with all-wheel drive should you opt for a V8-powered example.
New fabric roof takes 15 seconds to deploy or retract, and can be operated at speeds of up to 60km/h Here in Singapore, this will take the form of the SL55. This variant comes with a total of 469bhp and 700Nm of torque, allowing the car to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds. All this power gets put to the road via a nine-speed multi-clutch gearbox, as well as Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
A 2.0-litre alternative is also available here. Badged as the SL43, this unit adopts the same M139 engine as found in cars such as the Mercedes-AMG A45, but in this SL is instead fed by an electronically-assisted turbocharger, which is in turn powered by the vehicle's 48V mild hybrid system.
Mercedes states that this arrangement ensures a spontaneous throttle response across the entire rev range, while increasing overall efficiency. The SL43 will put its power on the road via its two wheels alone.
The tilt angle of the 11.9-inch infotainment display can be adjusted electronically to reduce glare from the sun when the roof is retracted Handling for both models comes is assured thanks to a multi-link suspension design at the front axle and a five-link design at the rear. Both models also get active rear-axle steering as standard.
Supporting this handling of course, is a soft top, which Mercedes states, takes 21kg off the weight of the car and aids to lower its overall centre of gravity. This roof can also be deployed or retracted in 15 seconds, at speeds of up to 60km/h.
A high-resolution 12.3-inch LCD screen which serves as the instrument cluster in the SL, working alongside an 11.9-inch infotainment display which can be adjusted electronically into a more vertical position to reduce glare from sunlight.
A host of exterior design packages are available for the Mercedes-AMG SL here in Singapore, while those that opt for the SL55 will also be able to get the AMG Dynamic Plus Package, which adds dynamic AMG engine mounts, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, and an additional 'Race' driving mode.
