The 23rd annual International Automotive Festival of Paris, which was held at the French capital's Hôtel des Invalides (February 7-10, 2008), saw Renault Laguna Estate pick up the top prizes in both the 2007 'Most Beautiful Car of the Year' and 'Most Beautiful Interior of the Year' categories. Designed with quality as a prevailing leitmotiv, Renault Laguna was released four months ago and is available in 56 countries.
Of the 11 Grand Prix awards presented in the course of the evening's opening ceremony, the prize for 2007's 'Most Beautiful Car of the Year' went to Renault's Laguna Estate which was chosen from a shortlist of a particularly high standard by the voting public from across Europe. The jury also announced the winner of 2007's 'Most Beautiful Interior of the Year' award which went to Renault Laguna in recognition of its interior styling, perceived quality and harmonious volumes, materials and colours.
Grand tourer refinement
Designed to express driving pleasure, Renault Laguna Estate's flowing exterior lines are elegantly streamlined and redolent of the 'shooting break' spirit. With its large air-intake picked out by a chrome strip, the front end's looks point to the satisfying powerplants available underneath its long, raked bonnet. The profiled headlamp modules are particularly expressive, too, and the layout of the three light sources gives Renault Laguna Estate a particularly piercing gaze. With an overall length and width of 4.80 and 1.81 metres respectively, Renault Laguna Estate features perfectly balanced proportions, while its personality and propulsive feel are underpinned by the plunging character line of the sides. The chrome side window surrounds form a flowing arch that further highlights the model's status-enhancing looks.
Renault Laguna Estate's marked sills ensure that the car sits squarely on its flush 16- or 18-inch wheels, and its modern, distinctive pedigree is further emphasized by the steeply raked rear screen. The design and elongated glazed area of the rear quarter-light combine with the profiled roof bars to accentuate the model's sporting lines, while the extended rear overhang has resulted in a boot volume of up to 1,593 litres, with plenty of practical stowage solutions and a modular interior. For in addition to its looks, Renault Laguna Estate is also extremely practical. Two chrome exhaust tailpipes hint at the pleasure delivered by the higher performance versions.
Interior trim and perceived quality
Renault Laguna Estate's cabin is identical to that of the saloon version and mirrors the exterior's appeal thanks to a harmonious design which conveys a genuine sense of wellbeing for all occupants. To further express this upper-range feel, the slush-mould dashboard seems to be totally separated from the console. Regardless of their form, the radio and navigation displays are seamlessly integrated, while the reassuring, driver-friendly controls and displays have been carefully designed and positioned. In addition to the gearshift lever, and according to equipment level, the centre console houses the controls for the manual or automatic parking brake, cruise control/speed limiter and navigation and communication system. Customers looking for top-end appointments will also appreciate the dark or light charcoal Haircell leather upholstery featured on Initiale versions, as well as the light-coloured wood trim that runs across the dashboard, and has been carried over to the door panel. Renault's longstanding partner Faurecia has contributed its engineering expertise and reputation for innovation in the Premium segment. Input from Europe's second largest automobile equipment supplier can be found throughout Renault Laguna's cabin thanks to its contribution not only to the dashboard and centre console, but also to the acoustic module, door panels and seat collection.
