  • Renault Scenic E-Tech gets more range and smarter tech

The updated electric crossover gains a longer driving range, faster charging, Google Gemini integration, and enhanced driver assistance systems.

Renault has updated the Scenic E-Tech electric with a longer driving range, faster charging performance, and a suite of technology upgrades that extend beyond the usual battery improvements.

The biggest change comes under the floor. The Scenic is now available with a new 89kWh NMC battery paired with a 164kW motor, delivering a WLTP driving range of up to 642km. Renault says charging performance has also improved, with the battery able to charge from 15-80% in 28 minutes on a suitable DC fast charger.

A second 67kWh LFP battery will join the range later, offering up to 467km of WLTP range. Like the recently updated Megane E-Tech electric, it adopts a cell-to-pack battery design that improves packaging efficiency while helping to keep costs in check. Both battery options also benefit from faster DC charging performance than before.

Inside, Renault has refreshed the cabin with redesigned seats, new upholstery materials, and additional recycled-content trim. Two new exterior colours, satin slate blue and exo galaxy grey, have also been added, alongside fresh 19-inch and 20-inch wheel designs.

The more interesting updates, however, may be digital rather than mechanical. The Scenic's openR link infotainment system now supports Google's Gemini AI assistant, making Renault one of the first mainstream manufacturers to integrate the technology directly into the in-car experience.

While many recent EV updates have focused on battery figures, Gemini potentially changes how drivers interact with navigation, vehicle functions, and connected services through more natural voice commands.

Renault has also fitted a new Qi2-compatible wireless charging pad. For smartphone users, particularly those with MagSafe-equipped iPhones, the magnetic alignment helps keep phones securely positioned while charging and reduces the overheating issues often associated with conventional wireless charging pads.

Other enhancements include upgraded driver assistance systems, including improved vehicle recognition, predictive eco-driving functions, and a new Multi Target feature capable of tracking multiple surrounding vehicles simultaneously in heavy traffic.
