  • Range Rover launches the Evoque

Range Rover has unveiled the Evoque at a 40th anniversary celebration of the Range Rover brand, and will go on sale next year

The Evoque looks virtually identical to the LRX concept that was first shown in 2008, and features sporty styling, distinctive headlights, and a sloping roofline. Range Rover says that the Evoque is "the smallest, lightest and most fuel efficient Range Rover ever produced."

The company has yet to release full specifications for the Evoque, but it is likely to have a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel, a 3.2-litre inline-six petrol, and a 2.0-litre turbodiesel hybrid version. The Evoque will be two-wheel-drive as standard, with four-wheel-drive an option.

According to Phil Popham, managing director of Land Rover, "The all-new Range Rover Evoque, is an important step for the future continued success and growth of the brand. Customers can be confident that the new car will be premium, luxurious and just as special as the other Range Rover models. Its sporting looks and unique qualities will open the brand to a new group of customers who may not have considered a Range Rover product before."

The Range Rover Evoque will be officially launched at the Paris Motor Show in September this year, and go on sale across Europe by the middle of 2011, and in other markets shortly after. The Evoque will be built at Land Rover's plant in Halewood, England.
