Smart introduced its Smart Concept #5, its most spacious and versatile vehicle to date.
The Smart Concept #5 will offer a combination of an outdoor-inspired design alongside the functionality already associated with its vehicles. The car will also feature all-wheel drive, off-road tyres and of course, state-of-the-art technology. Smart states that the concept vehicle goes beyond urban boundaries and represents a consistent and decisive evolutionary step for the brand.
The concept vehicle features a drive system that makes used of 800V technology, and comes with a battery capacity of more than 100kWh. This combination allows for super-fast charging, which will see the vehicle climbing from a 10 to 80% state-of-charge in a mere 15 minutes. The vehicle also offers an all-electric range of over 550km.
Fitted with five different driving modes, the mid-sized SUV has the ability to effortlessly manoeuvre in a range of of road conditions.
The exterior of the vehicle underlines the adventurous character of Smart. The vehicle's adventurous spirit is enhanced with an illuminated roof light bar combined with protective front and rear skid plates on top of a hidden integrated winch and a folding rear step for roof access. Adding to its unique character, the light animations fitted on the car offers a playful yet sophisticated look, adding a lively personality to the Concept #5. In terms of size, the overhangs on the front and rear are short, improving its efficiency footprint.
The concept #5 has been optimised to maximise space and ambient comfort not just for the driver, but also its passengers. Horizontally aligned elements and conveniently arranged interfaces used to control the functions of the SUV creates a clear, organised feel in the cabin, ensuring a pleasant user experience.
The most prominent aspect of the cabin is a wide console, which is fitted with a HMI design layout and two embedded screens that make use of OLED technology. These screens, powered by the AMD V2000 chip, provides optimal access to the vehicle's functions.
The zero-gravity front passenger seat offers an innovative combination of comfort and safety, and also offers comfort features such as heating, ventilation and massage functions.
The Smart Concept #5 also features a virtual in-car assistant that makes use of latest generation of Artificial Intelligence technology developed by state-of-the-art generative AI specialist, Cerence. The assistant can engage drivers and passengers in entertaining conversation, and provide accurate and relevant answers to to almost any question imaginable.
The Smart Concept #5 will be debuting at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition on 25 April 2024. Smart states that it will present a series production model of the third vehicle in its portfolio by the second half of 2024.
