Volvo opens new software testing centre in Sweden

Volvo has opened a new state-of-the-art software testing centre in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The new site will ensure that its increasingly software defined vehicles including the flagship EX90 SUV and new EX30 crossover continue to get better over time via over-the-air software updates.

Covering a total of 22,000sqm and representing an investment of close to $37 million (300 million Swedish Kronor), the new Gothenburg site will serve as the flagship of a developing network of engineering centres and Tech Hubs around the world. The firm already operates software test centres in cities including Lund and Shanghai.

A total of 100 individuals are set to be initially employed at the new facility, with this number set to grow to 300 once it is running at full capacity. Volvo is targeting to become an industry leader in new technology and to become a fully electric car company by 2030. Volvo only established a new Tech Hub here in Singapore in September 2023, and had earlier announced plans for a new software-focused Tech Hub in Krakow, Poland.
